Snow Day

Image
A week away from Breslin's first birthday and we are busy figuring out where to be when on which day for the Christmas holidays. Bres is the star of his day care and the funky monkey we've always known him to be. The day has come where I can turn my back on him and 20 seconds later he will be up all 13 stairs at our house. Colby and I are relishing our first year as teachers together and our time off as a family. Last week we had a huge winter storm, and Colby, Bres, and I all got to stay home and enjoy the day being snowed in together. We took Bres out in his new sled (courtesy of Great-grandpa and Great-grandmommy Evans). Moments after this picture was taken he did a full out faceplant in all 8 inches. :)

It's Been A While!

Hey there again! I realized that it has been a month since I have posted anything new about Breslin and I don't want anyone to get worried! Basically, things have been crazy for the adults in the Sharp household lately. I started my masters program at the end of April and Colby has been finishing up his first year and interviewing for a position next year. Breslin has been SO much fun lately. He is the happiest, most laid back boy and I consider myself extremely blessed. I took the day off with him today because we didn't have a sitter and we had a great time. Breslin is smiling and laughing almost every minute of the day he isn't sleeping or hungry. We are flirting with the idea of starting the Bresmeister on solid foods this weekend when we have a little extra time, but we'll see. Breslin is getting the hang of sitting up on his own and hardly needs any help. He is also teething...drooling all over everything in site and trying to put anything he can get his hands ...

A Big, Big Weekend

Image
According to my husband, this was a "momentous" occasion. We got free Tigers tickets on Sunday and without hesitation, we were on our way to Comerica Park for Breslin's first Tiger game. It goes without saying that the trip trumped his first picnic on Friday night. Anyway, it was a big, big deal. We slathered on the sunscreen (on Breslin too) and packed up the bottle cooler and spent the day at the ballpark. Breslin enjoyed all the sights and sounds of the game, including a dad-narrated tour of Comerica Park, dad's player info, and and dad's play by play of the game. Instead of finding our seats in the nosebleeds at Comerica, we found a picnic table on the concourse that we could actually watch the game from. This made is exceptionally easy to spread out all of our baby paraphanalia and watch the game while walking or bouncing Bres when he got fussy. The roar of the crowd, 38,000 strong, was a little scary for Bres and the sun was tiring, but we think based on ...

Laughing!

Image
BRESLIN LAUGHED! I know that if I was reading some crazy lady's blog and she told the entire world that her kid laughed, I would probably not think that it was a big deal. I am telling you, as a mom, to hear your child laugh is the most amazing sound in the entire universe. I instantly burst into tears and was filled with an unspeakable joy. The laugh was so tiny, but it was a definite, distinct laugh. Breslin was sitting on Colby's lap and I was being goofy trying to make him smile and he LAUGHED! It's going too fast. I don't want any more firsts, ok? We're good with what we've accomplished so far. I don't want him growing up and leaving me. I want to remember all of these moments in perfect clarity forever. I love being a mom. I especially love being Breslin's mom. It is my favorite thing about who I am. Congratulations to Russell and Karen Gaston, our friends who gave birth to beautiful healthy baby girl, Avah Grace on March 22nd. She is absolutely pe...

Happy Easter and Breslin's New Buddy!

Image
Happy Easter, everyone! It's Breslin's first "real" holiday. Colby and I made biting comments about all of the ridiculous people who bought Easter baskets for babies...after all, they don't know what's going on, so why should they get an Easter basket? Well, we finally caved and went shopping for Breslin's Easter basket on Saturday afternoon. Breslin got a couple of onesies, a Baby Einstein CD, some wrist wrattles, and a bunch of Easter Eggs filled with nickels. Alaina got a substantial number of Reese's peanut butter eggs and Colby stocked up on Starburst jelly beans. Not a bad trip, all in all. We (meaning Alaina) even colored Easter eggs and wrote the letters of Breslin's name on each egg. It truly bordered on ridiculous, but it was fun. Breslin got a cool new outfit and posed for a picture with Dad. After all of the Easter excitement, he took a three hour nap and has now decided that he is officially "Eastered out", until next year an...

Good Smiles, Good Times

Spring Break has proven to be a wonderful and relaxing time for all members of the Sharp family. We're seeing some major smiles out of Breslin, who is beginning to love the chair almost as much as his dad.

Things I Know Now

Image
I know now that baby poop is really as gross as everyone says. I know now that when you are nine months pregnant and people say "sleep while you can" it takes every ounce of self-discipline not to hit them in the face. What are you supposed to do, save up? I know now that I could never love someone's smile so so so much. I know now that being a mom changes your relationship with your spouse dramatically. I know now what real stretch marks look and feel like. I know now that going through labor "naturally" is a badge of honor. I know now how to change a diaper with my eyes closed and button up all those cute little outfits with the millions of snaps. I also know that the cutest outfits are usually the biggest pains to change. I know now that I don't know anything and everything I knew before turned out to be meaningless. I know now what will ALWAYS be the first thing on my mind when I wake up and the last thing on my mind before I fall asleep. I know now wh...
