2 Cold Days

Image
We've had a couple of cold days here. Now, don't get me wrong. Unlike a lot of people, I don't mind the extreme cold because it means that it's too cold to go to school. When the temperature drops below a certain point, school is cancelled. And that's exactly what happened the past two days. In order to get some quality time outside of the house, I took Bres and Dharia to Kids 'N Stuff, and interactive kids museum that's a five minute walk from our house. We didn't walk, of course, but we did bundle up and drive over. We spent the morning hours playing with the giant train table, the water table, the art station (painting, crayons. gluing, play-do, etc.), and climbing on all kinds of stuff. For any parents with children of the ages 15 months-6, if you're anywhere close to the Albion area, I would highly recommend checking it out. If your kids like it, you can buy a family membership for only $50. It's good for the whole year and you can come as m...

Breslin Goes 7 for 8...

Besides continuing to work on our letters this week, we've been getting back into the swing of things in terms of school and daycare. Monday was rough. A suprise snow day on Wednesday, however, made the week a little more bearable. I started officiating some gymnastics this week, too. I want to use the extra money to buy lots of stuff from IKEA. :) Colby and I did great running this week. We both ran in the crazy deep snow on both days this weekend. Saturday we even ran in the dark so that we could both get it done before I had to leave for the meet in East Lansing. I judged vault at the invitational. First place was a score of 9.775! It was really fun to watch. Dharia Lou is starting to cut some teeth. I can feel FOUR under her little sore gums. Poor girl. She is such a sweetie, though...not too fussy, but you can tell she's feeling it. Another one of my new year's resolutions was to read at least two books to each kid every day. So far we've been going strong on that ...

Breslin is TWO!

Happy Birthday, the Bres-meister. What do I love about Breslin? So many things it's hard to keep track of them all. I love his unabashed enthusiasm for life. Just try to keep a straight face when he's smiling or laughing. I bet you can't do it! I love that look on his face when he's concentrating at "reading" a book or "drawing". I love when he runs to me when I pick him up at daycare saying "Mom! Mom! Mom!" It's so cool being his best friend right now. I'm trying to savor every moment because I know it won't last for long. I love his crazy dancing to Old MacDonald and clapping to any song on the fridge DJ. I love his heartfelt loyalty to Thomas the Train. I love how he says "..'Lo?" when he takes my phone. I love how he gives Dharia Lou kisses (it's pretty rare...most of the time we ask he says, "NOOOOOOOOO!") I love the HUGE hug he gives me when I let him out of time-out. I love that he know...

The Christmas Beard and Other Sharp Family Traditions

Image
Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years to you all from the Sharp Family! Colby has an unofficial tradition of growing a beard over Christmas break. It always varies in its duration and bushiness, but you can usually count on the lumberjack look starting around the middle of December. This is December 13th, at the beginning of beard season. Another tradition for our family is that of Christmas PJs. We buy brand new pajamas, but we can't wear them until Christmas Eve night. I had great dreams of using my mad sewing skills to make Colby and Bres matching pajama pants for their Christmas PJs this year. Needless to say, I didn't get around to actually sewing them until a couple of days before Christmas. Colby's turned out just fine and I started to think that I might be actually getting a hang of this sewing business. But then, I looked at Breslin's pants in horror. I had sewed them upside down! The legs were super wide apart and all the elephants were upside down! ...
