Home Stretch

Image
Well, we're in the home stretch. Colby and I are feeling the increasing pressure of wrapping up and finishing strong. In the midst of the craziness of school, our son continues to delight and entertain us while exploring the big, bad world. Unfortunately, growing up also includes cutting teeth. At this moment in time, he is bringing in three teeth at once, resulting in many sleepless nights and general unhappiness throughout the Sharp family. As I was tromping down the stairs this morning in a fit of grumpiness at being woken up by Bres yet again during the night, I saw what appeared to be my son asleep on my husband. All the grumpiness immediately faded, and I was so grateful to my husband for being willing to take care of our son and to let me sleep. It helped that they were just so darn cute! See for yourself! I said goodbye to my seniors in AP Biology this week and Colby will be saying goodbye to a classroom full of fourth graders on Friday. It's hard to believe that we

Motherly Musings

When I was little, I used to think that when someone was a mom, they automatically knew the answer to every question. Now that I am a mom, I realize that some moms know more than others, but for the most part, we are good at acting like we know what's going on. For example, what is really the best way to deal with a screaming toddler at the East Lansing art fair in front of thousands of people? What exactly is the best way to handle an inconsolable, sick little boy at 3:30 am when you know you have to go to school the next morning? I guess there are no "right" or "wrong" answers when it comes to these things. You act in the moment, and you just pray along the way that you're doing what's right. I keep hearing people say that Breslin is getting so big, and they're right, though I don't notice as much. When we go to the park, I keep wondering if this will be the time when he doesn't reach for my hand when he goes to the slide. I'm not sure

Spaghetti and First Haircut

For a while now Colby and I have been hemming and hawing about what to do with Breslin's hair. We love how curly it is and all these people kept telling us how after they cut their child's hair it was never curly again. I didn't want to lose all of those curls! But I was also afraid he was going to go cross-eyed from trying to see from out from under his bangs. So, on Mother's Day, I had my mom and grandmother over for lunch. My mom offered to do a small haircut, just in the front. Even though it wasn't a full-fledged haircut, I still think that it is noteworthy. It did involve scissors and now he can see! Breslin loves spaghetti, but Colby and I get tired of having to shovel it into his mouth (c'mon, I'm pregnant, I'm hungry too). So after a little while of feeding him spaghetti with a fork, we gave up. We stripped him down and let him just go at it with his hands. It was fun. The "after" picture...next up for a haircut...mom!
