Things I Know Now

Image
I know now that baby poop is really as gross as everyone says. I know now that when you are nine months pregnant and people say "sleep while you can" it takes every ounce of self-discipline not to hit them in the face. What are you supposed to do, save up? I know now that I could never love someone's smile so so so much. I know now that being a mom changes your relationship with your spouse dramatically. I know now what real stretch marks look and feel like. I know now that going through labor "naturally" is a badge of honor. I know now how to change a diaper with my eyes closed and button up all those cute little outfits with the millions of snaps. I also know that the cutest outfits are usually the biggest pains to change. I know now that I don't know anything and everything I knew before turned out to be meaningless. I know now what will ALWAYS be the first thing on my mind when I wake up and the last thing on my mind before I fall asleep. I know now wh...

Hanging out with my Greats

Image
Colby and I are spending some very weird time alone without a kid. We have left "The Bres" in the very capable hands of his great-grandparents in Clare, MI. He will be home tomorrow, so we have been enjoying the quietness as much as possible and taking the opportunity to catch up on house and school work (not to mention sleep!). We do miss him like crazy, though! My grandparents have been very busy with Breslin: showing him off to their friends, eating breakfast at Big Boy, going to the bank, shopping at Jay's Sporting Goods, and even taking a tractor ride! Love to you all...the Sharps

Me and My Mom

To all the haters out there who say there's no pictures of Breslin and Alaina...

Mom, I'm so tired...leave me alone...

This is Breslin today at about 3:00. It's just a lazy Saturday afternoon.

For Love of the Game

Image
With all the March Madness hoopla going on, Colby has been pretty hyped up and can't wait until he can sit on the couch and watch the Spartans with Bres. He is also pretty excited to share his love of the Tigers with Breslin this summer. For many, many years Colby has been following the Detroit Tigers and, until this past season, has been considered one of God's most pitiful creatures. He even sported his Olde English D proudly through the season that the Tigers strove for the title of Most Losses in a Season. He has stuck with his teams, loyally, through thick and thin and constantly reminds me of why I love him with his quirky comments about others who are less committed to their teams and their losing ways, calling them "fair weather fans" but in a less nice way. My husband is the only one I know who can actually make a person feel guilty for rooting for a team other than the one that is from their home state. Bres is looking forward to going to visit his great-gra...

The Extended Sharp Family

Image
So, today Colby and I went out on a (gasp) real date and left Bres with his Grandma and Grandpa Sharp. This also entailed leaving him in the questionable hands of his many uncles of the Sharp family. For those of you not familiar with our situation, Colby is the oldest of 7 Sharp children. They are all boys except for the next to oldest, Jenna, so it goes without saying that Breslin is not lacking in the uncle department. Cole and Cal are 4 and 3, respectively, so they are always especially delighted to see their nephew. Cole and Cal have been known to don their baseball and/or football uniforms at any time and in any season. They have also been seen in sub 30 degree weather in their underwear splashing around in the giant mud puddles next to their house. When Colby stopped by the house a week ago, Cole was helping his dad "paint" the van. Does it surprise you that the paint was in fact a nice, thick coat of mud? In short, they are crazy . But we love 'em anyway, God he...

Splish, Splash I Was Takin' a Bath!

Image
Breslin has really been loving his bath time lately. It was made even better when he got a HUGE package in the mail from Aunt J out in Texas. Inside the box was an awesome blue robe with lions and penguins on it and matching slippers! While we're in the tub, Breslin loves singing the various tunes from the MSU pep band. Even when he's grumpy, a little time in the tub makes him very smiley! We're getting a little nervous that Breslin might be a little smarter than his folks. He has figured out a way to splash us with his hands and feet while in the tub, especially when mom and dad fill it up at little too far. He loves to kick in just the right spot to soak us! Grandma got Breslin his first pair of overalls, which looked great on him after he was all nice and clean from his bath!

Bres at the Bres

Image
It's exciting when you first start a blog (at least for me) because you have all these great stories you haven't told yet and all this space to tell them. Well, here's the story of Bres at the Bres...the Jack Breslin Student Events Center, that is. It was a chilly February evening in East Lansing. It was the National High School Signing Day, and the Sharps were out in full force. Breslin (the Robert variety) was in his cool, chic, Baby Bjorn carrier and made his way through the mezzanine of the Breslin Center getting big tough football players' autographs in his baby book. If that wasn't enough excitement for one evening, he also got to hear Coach Dantonio talk about all of the great recruits for next season. When the evening was over, mom and dad took him onto the floor where he flirted with the MSU dance team and even posed for a picture with Coach! All in all, it was a very memorable evening. Maybe someday these pictures will come back to haunt Breslin...

The Night You were Born...

So here’s the story of Breslins’s birth. I guess you could say it was pretty routine as far as giant babies coming through smaller openings go, but for two rookie parents it was an unbelievably unforgettable experience! It would be the understatement of the century to say that my husband, Colby, is an avid sports enthusiast. I mean, this guy can quote stats about athletes and sporting events that took place long before he was even born. It was New Years Day (2007) and we were relaxing and watching the Boise State vs. Oklahoma game. If you recall, it was a great game that went into overtime. At the start of the second overtime, when I went to go to the bathroom (not an east feat at 9 months pregnant), my water broke. Well, at least I thought it broke. I wasn’t sure, as I’d heard many stories of pregnant women claiming their water had broken, then driving to the hospital only to be told that they had just had an episode of urinary incontinence. Yikes. After doing some research i...
