Zoos and Pools

Bres and Colby on the "Wild Africa Path" at the Binder Park Zoo
I don't think that I have ever had a more interesting and fun zoo trip than the one we just completed. It wasn't monumental in the fact that it was Breslin's first zoo experience, because we did go last summer. It was significant because he really understood what was going on and was SO excited.

Upon entering the zoo, one can see that peacocks are allowed to roam the grounds freely. These peacocks are very gentle. People don't bother them and they don't bother people, but as I'm sure you'll agree, Breslin is not your garden-variety person. As soon as we set him down on the cobblestone walkway, he was off. He chased those poor peacocks all over the place. He was on a mission to get one, too. It wasn't a curious, hesitant sort of chasing. It was a bee-line type movement complete with much shouting and pointing.

This peacock was safe...it found a fenced off area Breslin couldn't get into!

It was a cool, rainy day and for some reason, this meant that most of the animals were out and active, which was great. Breslin loved the goats, monkeys, and any type of bird. We found that horses and giraffes fascinated him in a scary kind of way. At Binder Park Zoo, there is a platform that is the height of the giraffes so that you can feed them and pet them. Bres watched but was not really interested in getting too close.

Today I spent the better part of 45 minutes blowing up a giant inflatable whale kiddie pool. There were moments that I thought I would pass out, but I managed to get the stupid thing completely inflated. We took it outside and had a grand old time. It was 85 and muggy today, so I donned my maternity suit (yikes) and sat in the pool while Bres played with the hose. We must have been quite a sight to the cars driving by! We live on a dead end street, so I really didn't think that there would be too many people to gawk at me, but for some reason, as soon as I came out on our front lawn with my maternity suit, my whole neighborhood started driving by!

Bres "helping" fill up the pool...

How many guys do you know that look this good in a swim diaper?

I found out that because Northwest issued me a layoff this summer, I qualify for unemployment! So today, I was officially the most hillbilly I have ever been in my entire life. I received an unemployment check while hanging out in the front yard in a kiddie pool. Life is good! :)

If that zoo isn't too far we should meet up with Addy and Bres later this summer! It's less than an hour drive for us!
