Day 204 -- Loomis Park

The Rocket
Breslin has been wanting to go to "the park with the rocket ship" for a very long time.  It's been cruel, really.  We signed him and Dharia up for gymnastics classes at the Boos Center (which is a building in the center of the park) in February.  Every time we pulled into the parking lot, he saw the tall rocket ship standing there in the playground and asked if we could play in it.  And every time, I had to tell him no.  Yeah, I'm sure he was thrilled to be going to gymnastics instead of playing in the rocket.  Gymnastics classes ended about 2 and half months ago, and Breslin never forgot about the rocket ship.  About once a week he would ask about it, and every time we asked if he wanted to go to the playground, he would say, "The one with the rocket ship?"  Today, without a real plan in mind, after hearing him ask about the rocket ship yet again, we decided to just go and check it out.

Being at Loomis Park brought back so many memories for me, because it was a part of my stomping grounds as a child growing up on Elm Street.  I remember going to play on the playground and having picnics with White's chicken on the massive hillsides (at least, they seemed massive back then).  The playground has improved substantially since then, but it's still a beautiful, sprawling piece of land.  It was nice to be back.

We had lunch in the pavilion too...cheese!
The kids had a great time, of course.  The playground is just huge with all kinds of neat things to climb on, slide down, swing with, etc.  The rocket ship was a hit, naturally, but my favorite part of the trip was when Breslin and Dharia found a little house and pretended to be the 3 Little Pigs.  I had to catch it on video.

And...this is what happened on the way home.

Thank God for Loomis Park!

Lord, thank you for our fun time at Loomis Park today.  Thank you for all of the fun things the kids got to do outside, for the time together we got to spend as a family, and for the memories the park brought back for me.  Thank you for places like this that give my kids a chance to play and use their imaginations.  In your name I pray, Amen.
