Day 493 -- Backyard Paradise

Today, we had the time and appropriate weather to make some good use of our back yard.  I was swinging in our yard swing, watching the kids jump on our trampoline and thinking about how far our back yard has come in the last year or so.

The yard swing was a gift from Colby's mom.  It belonged to her mom and when she passed away, Kathy wanted us to have it.  It's a really great swing, complete with a very comfortable cushion.  Colby and I sit on it all the time.  It's a perfect place to sit and relax and watch the kids play.

The trampoline was a gift from my mom.  Last year, the kids went to a birthday party where there was a miniature trampoline and went nutso for it.  After hearing how much they loved it, she bought us the real-deal -- a 16 foot trampoline complete with a cage-surround.  The kids jump on it at every opportunity.  There are days where they are literally on it for hours.  Talk about a fun way to exercise!  It's such an awesome thing to have right outside our back door.

Then, we have the play yard, which was a gift from my dad.  Last summer, he ordered it as a surprise.  When it arrived on the back of a semi-truck, he organized the assembly.  The kids defintely appreciated it, as every time they play on it, they stop to mention that "Grandpa Jimmer" built it for them.  They enjoy the slide and the "treehouse" at the top, but without a doubt, their favorite feature are the swings.  They will swing as long as we will push them.  I'm guessing they'll figure out how to do it all on their own pretty soon.

With the river in the background, our back yard is a pretty sweet place to be if you're a member of the Sharp family.  It's not nicely landscaped;  In fact, it's full of dandelions and littered with pinceones, but it's exactly what we need to to be right now.  We took a break from playing today so that Colby could take Breslin and Dharia with him to pick up some Subway lunch.  I sat with AJ in the swing and thought about how lucky we were to have our amazing back yard.  When I looked down, AJ had fallen asleep on my shoulder.

Today I feel so fortunate that we have the space in our backyard for our kids to have fun, and especially grateful to the generous people in our lives who helped it to become our very own playground.

Thank God for our backyard paradise!

Dear God, thank you for our awesome back yard and for the chance to use and appreciate it today.  Thank you that my kids have a place where they can safely and comfortably play, get fresh air,  exercise, and have fun.  In your name I pray, Amen.
