Day 580 -- Coming Home

It's never fun to come home from vacation.  Immediately you are surrounded with the tasks of every day life, like making meals, doing laundry, and washing dishes.

Today I'm thankful that, for Colby and I, coming home from vacation is easier for us than most.

The first reason coming home is easier for us is our jobs.  As teachers, we don't come home from vacation and then face a work week.  We come home and face more summer.  It's pretty freakin' cool.

The second reason coming home is easier for us is that we get to see our kids.  We don't take kids on vacation, because with kids, it's not a vacation.  So, if you can't have kids on vacation, that means that they're always there when you get home.  After a week away (our longest stretch ever), we really missed those boogers.

There are other reasons that coming home is great too, but none of them really compare to these two.  Today, we basically stayed at home, enjoying each other's company all day.  I fell asleep on the couch with Dharia in my arms, read books with Breslin, and took AJ for a short swim at the Albion pool.

It wasn't flashy, but I felt blessed today that coming home isn't the downer for us that it is for most.  In fact, it's pretty great.

Thank God for coming home!

Dear Lord, thank you that coming home isn't a sad thing, but a great thing.  Thank you for our kids and for our jobs that allow us to spend so much quality time together.  Thank you for bringing us home safely and for reuniting us with our kids.  In your name I pray, Amen.
