Day 605 -- Ketchum Park
Colby and I took the girls to Ketchum Park in Marshall this morning and the trip ended up lasting through mid-afternoon, happily.
We've been to this park before, but have never really been able to appreciate it fully for whatever reason. The girls played out various scenarios together throughout the play structure designed to resemble infamous and historic places in Marshall -- such as the Cronin House, the Brooks Fountain, and the Honolulu House. It's a unique playground, for sure, and has lots of shady spots for moms and ads to sit. Colby and I made a Biggby stop beforehand, so we were sitting pretty. I'll never get tired of hearing Colby order me a "Skinny, Dirty Chai Latte?" in the Biggby drive thru. Never. Anyway...
The park is also situated on either side of the banks of Rice Creek, hence there is a North and South Ketchum Park that is connected by a pretty cool-looking old pedestrian bridge. It's pretty easy to get down to the creek, and the girls wasted no time taking off their shoes (and AJ, her clothes, naturally) and wading in.
Isn't it amazing how kids can be entertained for hours by the simplest things? Dharia and AJ threw rocks and splashed each other in Rice Creek for almost 2 hours. They ran up and down the bridge dropping rocks into the river below. They discovered that if they threw sticks in, they could watch them float down the river. We had to drag them, both crying from the river (even though our next stop was Cornwell's Turkeyville, and both were starving) with promises that we would soon come back.
At one point during as I sat on the bank watching the girls run up a short, overgrown path to the bridge, the sun hit their hair, and I heard their clear, tiny-girlish giggles intertwined with the babble of the creek. I saw butterflies flutter around them as they stirred up the undergrowth. And I thought that I couldn't imagine anything more perfect than that moment.
Thank God for a day at Ketchum Park!
Lord, thank you for time with our beautiful girls at this beautiful place. We are grateful for ways to appreciate the beauty of your creation as a family. Thank you for the memories we made and for the budding friendship we see between Dharia and AJ. In your name I pray, Amen.
