Day 635 -- A W for the Boys

Our boys cross-country team tonight won their dual meet against Charlotte by a mere 2 points.

But, I gotta say, that I will take a win, no matter the margin.

Since I started coaching, we have had some great guys, but we've never really been competitive.  The best we've ever finished in an invitational is somewhere around the middle of the pack, but more often than not, it's really towards the bottom -- or worse yet...the bottom.

Going in to this meet, we knew we'd made great improvements this season and would match up well with Charlotte's top runners.  We discussed strategy yesterday, and today, those guys did exactly what we asked them to do.  They ran hard and smart and finished in the places they needed to in order to secure a win.  Albeit not by much.

It was exciting to watch them come through at various stages of the race and do some quick math to see where we stood.  Coach Wilcox and I knew it was going to be extremely tight, but as we watched our guys make the push for the finish line and final positions were locked, we just looked at each other and smiled.

As a coach, it's the best feeling to be able to share the success of your athletes.  We haven't been able to do that with our guys team in a very long time.  I am so grateful tonight that they ran well, reaped the benefits of all the hard work they've been putting into their practices, and are now able to enjoy the feel of hard-earned victory.

Thank God for a W for the boys!

God, thank you for helping our boys team get a much-deserved win tonight.  Please help them to enjoy it and to use it to motivate them to work even harder the rest of the season.  In your name I pray, Amen.
