Day 783 -- Mobile Dental Clinic

A week or so ago, we got a flyer in Breslin's school folder advertising a mobile dental clinic that would be visiting Warner.  Essentially, it was like bringing the dentist to school.  You fill out the form, listing your insurance information, and the employees call your student out of class to do a check-up right there at the school.  Genius.

Going to the dentist is something that Colby and I struggle with.  To be able to schedule an appointment for the kids and get them there would require calling a substitute, using a sick day, and having a very unhappy child.   The mobile dental clinic would take care of at least two of those three problems.

Breslin went to the mobile dentist today.  He got to see pictures of his teeth, talked to the hygienist about how to brush and floss, and even scored a new toothbrush.

Unfortunately, however, he was also told that he had a cavity.  On his dental report card, he had listed one cavity that will have to be taken care of at a follow up appointment.

While it is undoubtedly and decidedly a bummer that Breslin has a cavity, I am so thankful that we were able to take advantage of this mobile dental clinic.  Who knows how long we would have gone without knowing about the cavity if it weren't for his visit today?  I am grateful that it was so convenient to be able to take care of his appointment and to learn about what we need to do to keep his teeth healthy.  Now we can take care of the cavity and use this program to keep more regular tabs on Breslin's teeth.

Lord, thank you for making it possible for Breslin to see the dentist in such a convenient way today.  Please help us to use this opportunity to take care of Breslin's teeth now and in the future.  In your name I pray, Amen.

A mobile dental clinic would be so great for my community! There are several senior citizens that retire here. It's hard for them to get to medical appointments, usually they have to be driven by someone else. Considering how much we all love when things we need come to us, this could be really cool for smaller towns especially. The van can travel around and take care of all patients in that area within a few days. Makes sense for rural areas. http://www.auroradentalclinic.com/

Day 162 -- "Showing Us the Way"

One of my favorite things about the spring is the baccalaureate celebration that takes place the week before graduation.  I love the chance to see my seniors in their caps and gowns and to praise God for their arrival to the finish line.  For every year since I can remember, I've listened to Western's Select Choir perform the song "Showing Us the Way" by Michael V. Giving birth to my daughter was a series of events I will never forget. On Tuesday evening, Colby and I went out to dinner. At some point in the evening, I told Colby that I thought we should head to the hospital. Given my history of delievering babies in a startingly short amount of time, I thought we should go to the hospital sooner rather than later (labors for both Breslin and Dharia were only 4 hours each). When we got there, I was discouraged to find that I wasn't very far along in the labor process, but they decided not to send us home based on said history. It turns out this was a very good thing. 20 minutes after being told that we could be there for a while, I was in the jacuzzi tub when I realized that the baby was coming RIGHT NOW. Long story short, I gave birth to my daughter in the bathroom of my hospital room. We Dance...and We Sing...When We Play the Drum!

Let it be known that my son gets his money's worth out of his toys. Or, in this case, someone else's money's worth. Whatever. You know what I mean. The toys that he likes, he really, really likes. He uses them a lot for a long time. This particular toy is a drum that was given to him by our friends, The Tappans, at his FIRST birthday party.
