Day 924 -- Breslin's Love for Fireworks

Those of you who know my son, know that he's not exactly easily amused.  He's a tough customer.  Not all jokes are funny, not all stories are interesting, and not everything we do is fun--and he's not shy about telling you so.  This is exactly the opposite of Dharia Lou, in case you wondered.

There are very few things that get Breslin truly bristling with excitement.

One is Donkey Kong.  That kid will tell you about every level in vivid detail, while bouncing up and down from sheer excitement.

Another, as I found out this weekend, was being on his Uncle Brian's bowling team.  This, of course, comes in a distant second to Donkey Kong; but, nevertheless, it was fun to watch him scream "STRIKE!" every time Brian rolled one or be moved close to tears when he managed his first spare.

And, finally, tonight I got an unexpected surprise when the fireworks began.  Breslin was giddy with excitement, chatting and shrieking excitedly about the color and size of each and every burst.  It was pure joy just to sit next to him and listen to his commentary.

I was so grateful to see his face light up and, for at least a precious moment, be completely and utterly in awe of something.

Thank God for Breslin's love of fireworks!

Lord, thank you for giving Breslin something to be excited about tonight.  Thank you for the joy he experienced at the fireworks and for the happiness it brought to me, too.  In your name I pray, Amen.
