Day 1130 -- Bed

I seriously don't mean to complain, but this week has been one of the longest and toughest that I can remember.

After Snowfest all week, grades being due, taking a student teacher through her paces, and judging at a 16 team invitational today...

I'm toast.

So, I am so thankful that I get to go to bed (even if it is only 8:30) and that I can get up when I very-well please tomorrow morning.  There is nothing that has to be done and nowhere that I have to be.

Thank God for bed!

Lord, thank you for the opportunity to rest.  Please give me the chance to recuperate tonight and tomorrow.  Amen.

Day 1040 -- Biscotti and Coffee

A couple of days ago in the teacher's lounge, one of my friends was making some coffee in the Keurig machine.  Now, since I am pretty much a total cheapskate, I don't ever use the Keurig machine because I don't buy the K-cups.  I made a comment about how good this particular brew had an amazing odor.  She responded that she enjoyed this "Mocha Swirl" flavor K-cup with a chocolate biscotti in the morning.  We went our separate ways, her with the amazing scent of mocha swirl lingering behind her, me choking down my cheap Folger's swill, complete with grounds.  Okay, it's not that bad, but it felt like it at the time. When I got to school today, I checked my mailbox.  In it I found a mocha swirl K-cup and a chocolate biscotti.  She even left a note that the biscotti was vegan friendly! Day 2011 -- Run in Marshall

After a very long day, capped off with a cross-country meet in Marshall, I decided to go for a run.  The meet was pretty short, and I had driven there due to having a couple of different meetings and obligations to take care of after school.  This gave me the opportunity to lace up my running shoes and take a run around the beautiful old town of Marshall instead of riding the bus home. My legs were hesitant, but it was clear after just a couple of miles in that this was going to be a great run.  I think part of it was running in such an amazing place: the old houses, the giant, ancient trees, the neighborhood streets full of history but empty of traffic.  There were just enough hills to make things interesting and the sun was just starting to go down.  It was truly ideal.  I got a chance to clear my head and headed for home feeling aglow. Thank God for a run in Marshall!

Day 693 -- Newbies

I've had a couple of Spring Arbor University students in my classroom since the start of the school year, observing me.  It's really no big deal, as all teacher education students must spend a certain number of hours observing in a classroom of their major or minor before they can become candidates for student teaching.  I will say, however, that every time I look to the back of my room and see them furiously scribbling notes in their binders, I wonder if I'll be the center of discussion at the next Methods Course meeting, like "Oh my gosh, you wouldn't believe what this teacher I was observing at Western High School did.  What. A. Freak." Anyhoo, these particular students are on the cusp of their student teaching experience and must teach 2 lessons in my classes before they can meet all of the requirements.  So, they both went today.  The first taught 3rd and 4th hour, the second took 5th and 6th hour.
